Older adults are the fastest growing population of individuals experiencing homelessness in California, and also the largest share of individuals experiencing homelessness for the first time in their lives. Homelessness interventions funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)’s homeless assistance programs, such as permanent supportive housing (PSH), are critical for preventing and reducing homelessness for low-income older adults. State homeless intervention and prevention programs available in California can also help unhoused older adults.

This webinar will provide legal assistance providers and aging services advocates with information about these crucial programs, including how to connect older adults to homeless assistance programs. This webinar will also discuss federal and state policy updates that may impact the availability of homeless assistance.

Presenters will discuss:
• An overview of HUD’s homeless assistance programs;
• An overview of programs available in California that can help prevent older adult homelessness;
• Federal and state policy updates affecting the availability of homeless assistance;
• How aging advocates can refer clients for assistance and participate in improving their community’s homeless response system.

Who Should Participate: Legal services providers and aging and disability advocates who want an introduction to the HUD Homelessness Assistance programs and California's homelessness interventions for older adults.
