Developing a Local MPA to Address the Needs of Older & Disabled Adults in Rural Communities
The California Master Plan for Aging (MPA) serves as a blueprint for transforming the aging experience across the state. Released in 2021, the MPA outlines 5 bold goals, 23 strategies, and over 120 initiatives aimed at building a California for all ages. However, the ambitious goals of the MPA cannot be achieved through state-level action alone. Recognizing the important role of California communities, the MPA features a Local Playbook geared towards supporting the development of local age and disability-friendly action plans.
In January 2022, The SCAN Foundation provided support to three advocacy coalitions to focus on developing local MPAs that address the unique challenges of aging in rural communities. Over a process of two years, the following coalitions are leading development of local MPAs focused on seven rural counties across California:
• Diversability Action Network (DAN) - Shasta/ Butte/ Glenn Counties
• Central Valley LTSS Coalition - Kings/ Tulare Counties
• Inland Empire LTSS Coalition - San Bernardino/ Riverside Counties
Join us to learn about the steps these regional coalitions are taking to develop their local Master Plans for Aging, including forming an advisory committee, building on existing data, gathering community input, identifying potential action items, and planning for implementation and sustainability.
