Reentry and Older Adults—An Introduction for Advocates Serving Older Adults

Thursday, October 6, 2022

WEBINAR

As the prison population rapidly ages, older adults reentering our communities after incarceration face significant barriers to reintegrating and living securely. In particular, older adults of color are disproportionately represented in the reentry population, and, due to structural discrimination, are at risk of being unable to access the health and economic security programs that could help them live securely in the community.

In conjunction with our newly launched Reentry Project, Justice in Aging presents this first in a three-part webinar series on reentry issues.

Reentry and Older Adults: An Introduction for Advocates Serving Older Adults will provide a solid base of information on policy issues facing the older adult reentry population and will discuss ways that advocates for older adults can improve their ability to serve this group.

Presenters:
• Vivianne Mbaku, Director, Equity in Elder Justice, Justice in Aging
• Jennifer Kye, Senior Attorney, Justice in Aging
• Georgia Burke, Director, Medicare Advocacy, Justice in Aging
• Trinh Phan, Director, State Income Security, Justice in Aging

Who should attend: Any older adult advocate directly serving older adults or involved in systemic advocacy on behalf of older adults.

Look out for future webinars in the series, including Reentry and Older Adults—Housing, which will take place on October 12, and Reentry and Older Adults—Accessing Income and Health Care Benefits, which will take place on November 9.

The series will include trauma-informed and culturally competent approaches, insights from reentry advocates with lived experience, and policy recommendations for improving outcomes in housing and public benefits.
