X-WR-CALDESC:In this webinar\, participants will learn about dementia progr
ams that focus on serving Hispanic and LGBTQI+ communities\, which histori
cally have not received equitable care and support.\n\nSaul Juarez Aguilar
will present information on the challenges of implementing dementia initi
atives in the Hispanic community and how collaboration acts as a powerful
tool for promotion and sustainability. Understanding these challenges and
efforts to serve the Hispanic community is essential as approximately 13%
of Hispanics 65 or older have Alzheimer’s or another dementia\, according
to the Alzheimer’s Association. Well-established health initiatives educat
e the Hispanic community about dementia but failing to understand Hispanic
culture could lead to increased health disparities among Hispanic communi
ty members living with dementia.\n\nSarah Bahnson will discuss challenges
experienced by LGBTQI+ people living with dementia and ways to improve ser
vices to this community and will present key features of the Visibility Ma
tters program. Learning about these topics is important as LGBTQI+ people
have experienced challenges accessing services\, including dementia care.
Whether deciding if it is safe to be known as part of the LGBTQI+ communit
y or needing additional protections\, aging care providers benefit from le
arning more about this community to better support person-first methodolog
 ies.\n\nDirect questions to NADRC-Webinars@rti.org\n\nPlease note:\nNADRC
webinars are free and open to the public.\nNADRC webinars are recorded and
will be posted at https://nadrc.acl.gov/.\nClosed captioning is available
during the webinar and included in all recordings.
